RWANDA ROCKS MUSIC SCHOOL
OUR 2016/2017 INITIATIVE
Following the success of OmniPeace Foundation’s seventh school, we have just launched our eighth school and first OmniPeace music school in Kigali, Rwanda
The Rwanda Rocks Music School gives children the opportunity to explore music as a tool of self-expression, while improving their basic education. The Rwanda Rocks Music School will nurture and amplify the spirit of healing through the power of music.VISION
After spending several months in Rwanda last year, I witnessed a country dramatically transformed since the 1994 genocide. In a prophetic moment, I was asked to build a music school by my guide who was a piano player in his church. This opened up the next chapter of my life, which led to creating my first music school. And as most things have a way of happening when they are meant to be, doors opened quickly and made it all possible. I am very proud of our program, which includes a carefully crafted curriculum created by a highly skilled group of music educators. Our program will connect the children of Rwanda with musicians, composers and audiences around the world to create unique collaborations through the universal language of music.IMPACT
In conjunction with a solid core curriculum, music education has been shown to ensure higher enrollment rates, lower drop out rates and an increase in academic performance. Steady enrollment rates results in increased literacy, which is a necessary step in the fight against poverty. Music opens up a child’s eyes, ears, heart and soul and gives them the ability to step out of oppression and into a life of prosperity. It has been proven that when a child is provided with a music education, it leaves a profound effect on the rest of their lives. The long-term benefits of a commitment like this are immeasurable, and OmniPeace Foundation is making that commitment.
